Here Comes The Food is page is dedicated to all the delicious foods available across this fine country. A focus will be placed on BBQ, Cured/Dried Meats such as salami, beef jerky and biltong and alternative ways to cook meats.
Beef Jerky
Well, we couldn’t have a page dedicated to fine foods without including beef jerky. Such a simple food can come in a wide range of flavours and styles, from thin and crispy, it a more soft chewy jerky bordering on biltong.
Here is a great jerky recipe to get you started at home.
Here Comes the Food Simple Beef Jerky Recipe
The following will produce a quality beef jerky flavour that will be sure to please everyone. Feel free to add additional ingredients to suit your desires. Ingredients as based upon 1 kg of thin sliced topside beef.
1kg of sliced (with the grain) topside beef. Grass-fed is preferred as it is leaner.
1/4 cup of soy sauce
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground corriander
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
splash of white vinegar
Mix all the ingredients together. It’s good to use a hand blender to ensure it all mixes well
Combine ingredient mix with sliced meat.
Mix together to ensure all meat is covered
Cover and put in the fridge for 24 hours.
Place in dehydrator for 10 to 15 hours at 55 degrees celcius.
Pulled Pork on the BBQ Grill
One of our favourite meals to cook is a smoked pulled pork on the weber kettle.
If you follow this process it’s really hard to stuff this up, and as a result you will get an amazing pulled pork that everyone will love!
